If you could get a PhD in hair color, Katy Perry would have one—she is the one of the reigning queens of constant transformation (alongside fellow artists known for reinvention, such as Lady Gaga and Madonna). If you missed Katy Perry on SNL, then you missed a good show. The beautiful songbird showed off her latest tresses to SNL audiences all over the world when she hosted the show for the first time. Now she's rocking a much tamer, more elegant short hairstyle, colored blonde with faint hues of light pink throughout.
Though Katy's no stranger to performing on a stage, testing out her acting chops on a stage was definitely new territory for her. Apparently nervous, she entered into the opening monologue wearing a dress adorned with Christmas ornaments, saying that a Christmas tree backstage had stolen her look.
Aside from the bizarre dress, her current look is a far cry from the usual Betty Page cut with black or blue hair. Not only does the new 'do drastically change the way she looks, her makeup was quite toned down for the show as well. She actually looked kind of "normal." With it being SNL, however, the "normal" appearance didn't last long and the costumes came out. Her Hello Kitty-inspired outfit for "J-Pop Talk Show" was one of the more creative ones.
It was during the pre-taped skits that Katy really shone. She starred in the latest wacked-out digital short music video, this one titled "Best Friends." Katy also did a pretty on-the-nose impersonation of Christina Aguliera during SNL's version of a New Year's Eve movie sequel, this time titled The Apocalypse. Additional public figures targeted by SNL, and performed by Katy, included Pippa Middleton and Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine. And as seen in the opening monologue, Katy and her many outrageous looks weren't spared as targets in the name of comedic glory either.
Though this new, more sophisticated look of Katy's may not inspire much for comedy writers, they need not fear, as per her usual M.O., she's sure to change it up very soon.
